Director of Special Events

Kelsey Powell ventured out from the south to the west coast in 2008 with the intention of majoring in public relations at SDSU. After finishing many of her general education courses quickly her freshman and beginning of sophomore year, she began to seriously think about the type of work that she wanted to go into. Public relations seemed like a perfect fit, and after her first PR course, she was hooked. She began to seriously look into PRSSA starting in the fall of her junior year, and now serves as the director of special events for the 2011-2012 school year.  Her duties include booking guest speakers, scheduling and planning networking and social events and helping coordinate workshops for all PRSSA members.

Powell began her first internship at Elle Communications, a boutique full service public relations, marketing and events firm specializing in fashion and lifestyle accounts, during her spring semester of junior year, and continued to do so throughout the following summer.

Aside from her internship, Powell constantly keeps busy with her kids that she nannies multiple times per week. She believes that this is where she gets much of her patience, which has definitely proven to be beneficial in the chaotic and stressful world of public relations.
