Claudia Huizar is a graduating senior at San Diego State University where she is working to obtain her Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism with an emphasis in public relations.

Claudia joined the San Diego State Fredrick C. Whitney chapter of PRSSA in January 2011. At the close of the spring semester, Claudia was elected director of public relations for the 2011-2012 school year. As the director of public relations Claudia will raise awareness of PRSSA and the San Diego State Fredrick C. Whitney Chapter. She will also increase member recruitment and retention, coordinate community service events and engage audiences through the management of the chapter’s Facebook Fan Page, Twitter handle and LinkedIn profile.

Claudia currently interns at J. Walcher Communications, a full-service public relations firm based in San Diego. While she was co-director of College Students for New Orleans at San Diego State University Claudia led the planning and execution of student volunteer trips to rebuild homes for Hurricane Katrina victims. She also led the event planning for the Creative Road to Recovery, a silent art auction held to subsidize trip costs.

Claudia expects to graduate in May 2012 and seeks to specialize in branding and campaign development for clients in the non-profit and lifestyle industries.
