A new addition to the PRSSA SDSU family: Meet our new advisor!
February 16, 2011 by Jemalyn Chavez
Dr. Hongmei Shen joins the PRSSA family as the new SDSU Chapter Advisor until 2013. Students may recognize her smiling face from walking down the hallways of PSFA or may have had the pleasure of attending one of her public relations courses—JMS 480, 585 and 620. If not, Dr. Shen may be a new face on campus but she is no stranger to the PR world, as her diverse background proves to be one worthy of noting.
Originally from China, Dr. Shen graduated from the University of Maryland in 2009 and is now an assistant professor in the School of Journalism & Media Studies at SDSU. Academically, Dr. Shen conducted research on the effects of culture on social responsibility and crisis-response strategies. She also performed national research on the Virginia Tech shootings in 2007. Professionally, Dr. Shen has a wide-array of experiences in the United States and China, varying in the fields of marketing, media relations and journalism. Currently, she is involved with the National Institutes of Health and the multi-country project on the status of women in new media.
Dr. Shen’s extensive experience in the academic and professional world will undoubtedly contribute to the success of our professional development workshops and member activities. Our PRSSA Chapter is excited to welcome Dr. Shen on board!
